Jebat Jr Photography: Historical > The General Post Office, Kuching (Before & After Series).

Before the majestic General Post Office building was built in Jalan Rock (now Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg), Kuching, stood there the old Police Station before it moved to the new Cental Police Station in 1931. The old Police Station may be demolished in 1920's and replaced with the General Post Office building which was completed in 1931.

In these Before & After Series, I will try my best to reshoot old photos based on the original direction.

Old Police Station, Kuching

Initially it took me some time to realize the location of this building. Then I notice the round wall of the building on the right, I quickly checked on Google Maps. Bingo! The building on the right is the Round Tower, and the building on the far left is located at Carpenter Street and still exist today. This photo must be taken during 1920's.

General Post Office.

The General Post Office building was completely built in 1931. Less than 100 years ago.

I'm not sure to whom the above picture should be credited, but the blog http://josephians-of-the-seventies.blogspot.com has uploaded this photo in 2011. Shown clearly in the picture are the General Post Office, the Pavillion and the Round Tower.
